Trap, Neuter & Release Programme

Cats! Love them or hate them (hopefully not hate!) they are here on the Mar Menor Golf Resort. Many are family pets with homes and owners, but unfortunately not all of them are so lucky, so there are strays going around.

There are a group of people on the resort who help maintain a Trap Neuter and Release Program. This is essentially a process to try and trap stray cats, sterilise them, and return them to where they were found.

Why return them to where they were found you might ask! A very good question, but the group are not a cat rescue or shelter organisation, merely a group of compassionate people trying to help where we can and avoid uncontrolled breeding. Also returning them to their own patch should help deter other strays from the entering the area.

Where possible we do try and find someone who wants to adopt a cat but this is difficult and time consuming so the main goal is the sterilisation.

We also help with food for the strays (this also helps condition them so we can set traps) and care for injured/sick cats wherever possible solely from donations and our own funding. Feel free to drop a bag of food into the Santa Rosalía Gatehouse.

Obviously not everyone is a cat/animal lover, and this is understandable, but this program is carried out for the benefit of the whole resort, as otherwise we would be overrun with cats (and they do catch the odd mouse or two)!
