Swimming Pool Safety

Whilst swimming pools provide much enjoyment for families, they are significant hazard to persons when safety standards are ignored. The following information is provided for your guidance and safety.

The use of swimming pools on the resort falls mainly into three categories, Community Pools, Private pools used for either long term and holiday rentals, and pools used solely for private use.

There are specific regulations for Community pools. If not followed, owners making up the community may be liable and subject to any claim made.

Property owners who choose to rent their property also have requirements placed upon them to ensure minimum safety levels are provided. Such owners should seek further advice to make sure they are compliant.

In the case of the two categories above there are no inspections made by enforcement authorities. It is only when the authorities receive a complaint, or in the case of a personal injury or fatality, inspections are made, and questions are asked. Also, owners are open to any legal claim being made by the tenant if safety standards are not provided resulting in personal injury.

Safety standards are common sense and may include the following.

Safety notices, water depth markings. water quality notice, water aid such as a life buoy or grab ring, first aid kit, water entry alarm, protective fence etc.

Private Pools, have very little enforcement requirements and they are normally confined to its construction. However best practice indicates that irrespective of its use, owners should provide minimum standards to prevent harm to persons.

In all cases swimming pools should be protected to prevent unsupervised young children from gaining access to them.
